How do you choose the right paint for wood?

A well-chosen paint can protect wood from damage and highlight its grain pattern.

The construction market offers a wide variety of wood paints, which differ among manufacturers and colours.

It may be difficult for most of you to choose the right product.

Making a purchase decision should be based on comparing the basic parameters.

Consider these factors when choosing wood paint:

finish, efficiency, method of application - paints can be applied with a roller, brush or spray gun, application - indoor or outdoor wood painting

What are the types of wood paints?

Wood paints have different names that tell you what ingredient was used in their production. The most popular types include:

** chalk paint for wood - provides a matte or semi-matte finish and a slightly rough surface, it is applied using a roller; recommended especially for DIY works,

** acrylic paint for wood - it is characterized by good durability and excellent ability to cover the surface; due to the finish, we can distinguish matte, semi-matte and satin paints,

** oil paint for wood - it has good coverage, is resistant to moisture and UV rays, but dries long and has an irritating smell; provides a glossy finish,

** phthalic (alkyd) wood paint - thanks to its durability and the ability to stick to the substrate firmly, it is recommended for painting elements exposed to friction and damage; gives a shimmering effect,

** polyurethane wood paint - resistant to weather conditions, mechanical damage and chemicals, protects against color change; depending on the variant, it is ready for use or must be mixed with the hardener.

How Many Coats of Paint Do I Need?

I usually suggest two coats of paint. However, there are numerous factors to consider when determining how many layers to apply to a surface; here are some pointers to keep in mind:

* Paint the interior wall the same (or a very similar) colour. A simple and easy way to paint a room in your home is to change the colour of the walls. When the surface has been thoroughly cleaned, one coat of paint should be sufficient. Cover the wall evenly with a good brush or roller. When the paint has dried, you should have a uniformly coloured surface that looks brand new.

* Repainting an interior wall with a new colour. This question probably has more than one short answer. Of course, it is dependent on the original colour that has been covered up and the new colour that has been used. When painting a dark or bold cover in a lighter colour, two coats are usually sufficient. It's a different story when it comes to painting light in the dark. In this case, achieving a smooth, even colour may necessitate several coats of paint.

Making use of a primer. With a primer, you can skip all of the layers required for light to dark painting. Primers are an inexpensive and simple way to mask the existing wall colour and prepare the surface for new paint.

* When working with fresh plaster, we always recommend applying a primer before applying at least two coats of the final paint colour. This is because fresh plaster absorbs moisture, resulting in a patchy, uneven finish. However, you can read about how to apply paint to fresh plaster above.

How do I paint fresh plaster?

In the case of new plaster, a thinned paint layer is usually required - mist coat, so that subsequent layers of paint adhere to the newly plastered surface, and most importantly, the nebula allows you to show any corrections made after the plaster, such as voids.

Most emulsion paints can be thinned easily for this purpose. There are specially formulated primers to aid the adhesion of the topcoat if you don't know how to dilute the paint or what proportions to use.

The presence of flaking paint indicates that no primer was used to prepare the new plaster.

It is also helpful to lightly wipe the freshly plastered surface to achieve a smooth finish.

Is it a good idea to paint bathroom tiles?

In short, yes. This solution has several major advantages, as well. A major advantage of this method is that no time-consuming renovation is required. Tile chipping and the dust associated with it are deterrents. This frustrating time can be avoided with bathroom tile paint. You can give your bathroom a new look in a short time.

The whole process is quite straightforward. The effectiveness of painting bathroom tiles depends on the product used. There are some paints that are not suitable for this type of material. Especially if the glaze is slippery and its matting is difficult to do by hand. Therefore, it must be a paint dedicated to such works.

Because the tiles (glazed tiles, terracotta, porcelain tiles, and impregnated cement tiles) are slippery and non-absorbent, it is critical to remove the dirt and degrease them before applying the bathroom tile paint; I use spirit for this purpose. The colours available will undoubtedly provide the desired stylistic effect, but they will not conceal the permanent dirt that will be visible as thickenings on the surface. As a result, surface preparation is critical.

Remember that if the tiles were glued incorrectly and water is leaking beneath them or there are large cavities in them, the paint will not help much. Paints for painting bathroom tiles, on the other hand, are appropriate for redesigning a room. And it will undoubtedly alter the appearance of the bathroom.
